Eligibility: Open to all artists. Must be 18 years or older to apply.

Project Budget: $5000 (estimated per mural) 

Project Summary: The Carbondale Creative District and Carbondale Arts are partnering with Loge Properties, LLC, to produce 2 new murals at 1201 Main Street by the roundabout at Highway 133. Artists and or Art Teams are invited to apply for one or both mural projects. 
We believe that art can be transformative and the impact of community mural making has value way beyond the art on the walls. It is a form of expression that gives voice to what is important in our community and world. We have two upcoming opportunities whose aim is to bring art to public spaces, by transforming large empty walls into energetic, and engaging spaces for the community to participate with and/or enjoy.

PROJECT ONE: We are seeking an artist or artist team to create a mural on the SOUTHEAST facing wall at 1201 Main Street in Carbondale. We are open to ideas, but the selected artwork should have a fresh/urban/whimsical feel. The surface of this wall is cinder blocks with a stucco backing and total dimensions of approximately 11’ tall by 14’9” wide (132” tall by 177” wide). 

PROJECT TWO: We are seeking an artist or artist team to create a mural on the NORTHEAST facing wall at 1201 Main Street in Carbondale. We are open to ideas, but the selected artwork should have a fresh/urban/whimsical feel. The surface of this wall is cinder blocks with a stucco backing and total dimensions of approximately 12’ 3” tall by 17’ wide (147” tall by 204” wide). 

2021 Project Timeline/Schedule:
March 8: Applications are open
April 23: Applications due
May 3: Selected artists are notified
May 30: A finalized sketch of the winning design is due at least one month prior to the beginning of painting.
July 1 - July 31: Painting will take place (exact dates are flexible within this timeframe and will be negotiated with individual artists).

Artist Compensation: Each project has a budget of $5000 (per mural). This does not include materials. Loge Properties, LLC, at 1201 Main Street will manage the preparation of the wall and scaffolding which also do not need to be calculated in the artist’s cost estimate.

Selection Process: Our mural design committee will select the winning design based on the following criteria:
- Artistic quality of submitted designs and past work samples.
- Appropriateness of artwork in scale and imagery to be visually effective.
- Relevance to the applicable themes as listed in the project description.
- Opportunities for community engagement.

Artists who are not selected may be kept on file and referenced throughout the year while we are working on other projects and commissions.
