Description

The CU Carbondale Speakers Series presents a printmaking workshop with C.U. Graduate Student Julia Klema exploring a variety of monoprinting techniques including color reductive printing from plexiglass, collograph printing, and the use of stenciling. Participants will begin working with applying color to plexiglass and then removing and adding color selectively to develop an image. This can be repeated multiple times to add layers to prints. Once participants have worked with this process, collograph printing will be introduced, followed by use of stencils, as well as how all of these processes can be used in combination to create complex and beautiful prints. Use of a pin press, roll press (if available), hand printing, and registration techniques will also be part of this workshop. These techniques offer a wide range of expressive possibilities and applications that can be used across media. These are also processes that require limited supplies and studio space and are therefore easily done from your home studio! Participants will come away with a series of unique prints or a varied edition of prints.

The Workshop & Project Show will provide: ink for the entire group (Akua x 10 colors), a 7''x9'' piece of plexi glass per student, 3 full size sheets of Arnheim paper per student (12-18 prints), collograph plates, newsprint, mylar for registration and stencil-making, latex gloves, paper towels, Q-tips, baby wipes and  more

Participants Should Bring: apron, lunch, additional paper if wanted and creativity!

The CU Carbondale Lecture Series is made possible by Carbondale Arts, The University of Colorado Boulder, The Carbondale Library, and the Project Shop.
